Abstract:

This book gives an insight into the problems and the possible solutions of the crisis of the world. It begins by describing the four major crises in the world, which are: the threat of a nuclear holocaust, the deterioration in the ecosystem, and violence in the social system, and the demographic crisis. As these crises become more visible in society, masses of people search for answers, and many find it in religion. Religion gives people a security that they yearn for in the time of need. The book continues by exampling possible answers by evaluating the first five dimensions of the global situation, which are: demographic, economic, political, military and religion. Once explaining how all these dimensions need each other to be successful, he goes on to explain the current challenges in South Africa and India. He also expounds on some theories of Gandhiji such as: “They say means are after all means: I say means are after all everything. As the means, so the end.” He explains the difference between Gandhian dialectic from Hegelian or Marxian dialectic through creativity. He explains how the Gandhian dialectic is based on unilateral non-violence and how it would deal in certain circumstances. In the fourth part of the book he uses the Naga problem as a means to show how the crisis began and how it was handled by India. He showed how society had an influential part in how the crisis was handled and how it was viewed. In the fifth chapter of the book, he elaborates on a Gandhian perspective on rural development. He begins by speaking of Gandhi’s vision of Sarvodaya, then the concept integrated rural development, consists of community development and the green revolution. He touches on the fact that poverty and unemployment are inter-linked and the role that technology has on rural industrialization. He continues by writing about the concept of the appropriate technology. He then turns his attention to the role universities have toward this solution. This book helps by giving a hopefully look towards the future. There are many things that are available to do in order to provide a cheerful future
