  Poverty Alleviation
Planned development has helped India in bringing down the level of poverty in the last five decades. However, nearly 25%
of the Indian population still lives below the poverty line. It is necessary therefore to take initiatives in the area of knowledge generation, attitudinal change and improved technology to overcome this challenge.
The analysis of factors contributing to continuing poverty and identification of appropriate multi-sectoral solutions has been
part of Shanti Ashram’s poverty alleviation work. Since its inception, we have also engaged in implementing micro-level
poverty alleviation programs in our service villages. The micro-credit programme of the Ashram stands testimony to this work.
